Approach: Tuning In

Friendship with one’s self is all important, because without it one cannot be friends with anyone else in the world.”

Eleanor Roosevelt

Over the past week, Approach group members focused on tuning into their minds and bodies, paying closer attention to how they can be present in a variety of settings. Ninth graders worked to debunk the myth that mindfulness = boring, instead creating their own “mini escapes” where they could practice checking in on themselves. Tenth grade groups looked at how they make decisions, learning about their own “board of directors” (ask them to know more!) and how this directs their decision process. It’s a great activity to explore- who would be on your “board?”

Whether hiking up a beautiful mountain peak in the sunshine or creating unique works of art, all participants got the chance to tune in, be present, and explore together.
