Crux: Purpose & Goals
Every BYEP group is unique to its members and their needs, how one group chooses to address conflict may be completely different than another group. In order to set these norms and expectations, groups go through an exercise called, “The Code of Honor “; this discussion based activity helps members define their group’s purpose. Last week the 10th-graders got started on theirs, here’s some of the questions PM’s asked to get the conversation rolling:
Why are you here?
How do you plan to contribute?
What are your goals?
How would you like to be supported? How do you plan to support?
The focus in 11th-grade was more introspective as members were tasked with setting five goals; personal, financial, wellness, academic, and BYEP related. After individuals came up with their goals, they reported back to their group. Members helped one another decipher if their goals were S.M.A.R.T (specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely) and found out how they can be supportive. Here’s the video groups watched for inspiration, what are your dreams?
