Crux: Week of 10/1/2018

Last week, we challenged 11th-grade participants to explore solitude and creativity. In the workshop, groups identified the differences between loneliness and solitude through a silent journey to Lindley Park. Afterward, many participants felt that they had replenished energy, calmed nerves, and creative ideas. Participants had the opportunity to explore creativity further on our Sunday photography adventure with BYEP board member, Gary Kachadurian.

This week Crux 12 participants started the process of exploring independent life skills. The 12th grade is beginning the process of learning how to develop the skills to move out on their own and live independently. Megan Strong, an MSU Finance student, joined the workshop to present on Finances. Participants grasped a greater understanding of credit, taxes, debt, and insurance in hopes to make smart financial choices in the future.

Sunday’s adventure with Crux 12 was spent at Spire Climbing Center. Participants and mentors challenged each other to push their comfort zones while bouldering and top rope climbing. Spire provides a supportive atmosphere for mentors and participants to teach and learn from each other in order to reach their goals.
