BECOME A MENTOR

BYEP mentors are relatable, passionate young adults, typically ranging between 21-35 years old, but not limited to these ages given the right fit. They bridge the gap between adolescence and adulthood, and support teen participants through a strength-based approach. Collectively throughout the year our volunteer mentors give over 13,000 hours of their time to BYEP's programming!

Our mentoring program is divided into three seasons of 13 weeks each: Winter (Mid-January - Mid-April), Summer (Mid-May - early August), and Fall (Mid-September - early December). We ask mentors to commit to a full season, about 10 hours per week in total on two separate days. We've found this volunteer experience is mutually rewarding for mentors and the youth we serve — mentors often come back for several seasons in a row!

  • Young adults are encouraged to apply (~21-35)

  • We ask for a commitment of 10 hours per week for one season (12-13 weeks). Multiple season volunteers are welcome and encouraged!

  • Introduce teens to and join on outdoor adventures you love.

  • All skill levels welcome! Learn new activities and skills together.

  • We support you along the way! You receive training, and are always with your group and BYEP staff.

  • Get access to pro discounts on select outdoor gear.

  • A rewarding and unique chance to volunteer with teens who commit to empowering themselves. Your support changes lives, both the teens’ and your own.

  • Experience growth, connection, inspiration, and challenges while supporting vulnerable teens in Gallatin Valley!

BECOME A TUTOR

We are proud to be able to offer BYEP teens tutoring services in the Dave Ireland Granger Jr. Memorial Tutoring Center. Our Tutoring Center functions as a drop-in homework club equipped with computers and supplies for our participants to complete their work in a quiet study space. Volunteer tutors agree to be available one evening a week from 4-7pm to staff our tutoring center. During that time tutors supervise participants, ensure that they are successfully completing their work, and answer questions as they come up. Tutors do not need to be experts in a specific subject area!

If you are interested in education, and want to pass on your skills and knowledge, consider becoming a volunteer tutor with BYEP! Simply fill out our online application, and once we review it we’ll reach out to schedule an interview.

Big Sky Youth Empowerment Elective Program

LEAD AN ELECTIVE

In the summer of 2022 we launched a new electives program for BYEP participants. Electives are additional times for teens to come to BYEP outside of their regular workshop times, and participate in a special workshop to learn a new outdoor skill, creative craft, and more.

Our goal is for electives to offer BYEP participants additional opportunities to gather, learn about new activities, connect with our community, and be at BYEP. After all, our beautiful space exists for our youth to be in it and use it as much as possible!

Our electives program runs weekly on alternating Mondays and Thursdays from 4-7 pm.

If you’re interested in bringing an elective opportunity to participants at BYEP, please fill out this form to provide us with some additional information.
